The best way to clean Weathertech floor mats is by following these steps below:
How to Clean Weathertech Mats?
Below listed are the 2 best ways you can clean your Weathertech mats and make them new.
- Using Pressure Washer and Mat Cleaner
- Using Soapy Solution
1. Clean Weathertech Mats Using Pressure Washer and Mat Cleaner
Required Items
Step 1: Remove and shake it out
Before you begin, make sure to remove the mat safely and any loose dirt from the floor mat. Sometimes it will come off on its own when you shake the mat out or vacuum them. If not, use a soft brush and sweep away as much of the debris as possible with gentle strokes.
Step 2: Clean With Vacuum Cleaner
We recommend removing any loose dirt from your Weathertech Floor Mats with a vacuum cleaner first.
To do this, use the vacuum cleaner’s upholstery attachment and search for any loose dirt.
If you have a pet or child in your car with messy shoes that get tracked into the mat every time they enter, it is best to clean these areas first before washing them so as not to spread dirt around.
If there are any deep creases left after vacuuming, give those an extra once-over with a small brush!
The last thing you want is grime hiding in hard-to-clean places like corners of seats or under mats. Vacuum cleaners will also suck up these little bits of debris that can not be removed by hand.
Step 3: Clean With Hose
Next, hose down the mat with a high-pressure nozzle. The water will help loosen up any stubborn debris and dirt sticking to your floor mats.
Step 4: Use a pressure washer(alternate to step 2)
If you don’t have a hose, use a pressure washer. Make sure to always start at the top and work your way down so that no dirt is pushed back into the mats and onto other surfaces in the mat.
For thicker stains or stuck-on debris, try using dish soap with a scrub brush. Soap will help release those stubborn pieces of something being ground into floor mat fibers. After it has soaked for a while, rinse it out with water then let dry completely before putting them back in the car!
Step 5: Soak the Mat in Soapy Water
Next, soak each side of your mats in soapy water for five minutes before rinsing thoroughly with clean water, and then use a high-pressure hose if available. Rinse until all soap residue has been removed!
Step 6: Scrub with mild detergent and water
Use a gentle dish detergent and water to make a soapy solution. Soak a sponge/cleaning brush or a clean cloth and scrub the mat for at least five minutes before rinsing thoroughly clean!
Continue to scrub the mat on all sides until the dirt has been removed from the fibers!
Step 7: Use Floor Mat Cleaner
If you have a specialized cleaner for your floor mats, use it to scrub the mat once more. Weathertech offers a floor mat cleaner that you can use to clean their mats.
WeatherTech’s Cleaner & Protector kit is a recommended product for cleaning car mats, especially WeatherTech mats.
Purple Power spray cleaner is another tool available in the market that cleans car mats effectively.
Step 8: Rinse Clean and Dry the Mat
Rinse each side of the mat thoroughly with clean water and remove as much soap residue as possible.
Lay the mats flat outside near an open window inside will help air circulate around them more quickly. If this is not possible, hang it over any door frame to dry it in the air.
Step 9: Reinstall the Mat
Reinstall the weathertech car mat by securing it to your floor with its Velcro straps. Make sure that you have fully seated the two halves of the mat together and that they are properly aligned before driving on it!
2. Clean Weathertech Mats Using Soapy Solution
Required Items
Step 1: Uninstall Your Mat and Shake it
Uninstall the mat from your car floor by loosening and then removing its Velcro straps or pins. Shake it out with a strong force to remove any excess dirt, mud, or sand residue.
Step 2: Make a Soapy Solution in the Bath Tub
Put the car mat in a bathtub or other deep container. Fill it with lukewarm water and add some mild laundry detergent to create a soapy solution. Allow the car mat to soak for about 30 minutes before starting the next step.
- Don’t use degreaser or Silicone products as they cause damage to the mat and make them slippery.
Step 3: Soak and Scrub The Car Mat
Use a brush to scrub the mat’s surface with the soapy solution. Scrub one side of it, then turn the mat and repeat on its other side.
Watch out for any stains that are still visible after soaking because these will not be removed by washing them in water only. You can also use some stain remover to get rid of it.
Step 4: Rinse with Water and Hang Dry
After scrubbing the mat, rinse it in warm water. Shake off as much of the excess water as possible before hanging it to dry air-side down.
Step 5: Re-Install the Car Mat
Reinstall the mat, make sure that you put the correct mat on each side of the car. Reattach the mats to velcro or retention pins or hooks. The car mat should stay firm and doesn’t obstruct the pedals.

Below are 3 best ways to make your Weathertech Floor Mats look new again. Once you clean them thoroughly as described above you can follow any of these 3 procedures to bring back the shine and color.
1. Use a Glossy Protectant
You can use a glossy protectant to restore the shine on your mats. Spray it evenly and allow it dry for about an hour before you use them again.
Some use aerospace protectants to bring back the shine. Spray a light coat of 303 Automotive UV protectant on top of the mats to bring back color.
Always spray a light coat of 303 and let it sit in the sun for about 30 minutes to let dry. This process prevents the mats from becoming slippery.

2. Good Conditioning for The Mats
Car Floor mats need more than just cleaning.
After a good clean of the mats, it is time for conditioning. This will bring the mats back to life and restore elasticity, color, and more. You can use Armor All Cleaner & Conditioner Spray or Eastwood Auto restoration kit for deep conditioning of the mats.
3. Waxing
For added protection against future stains and spills, spray both sides lightly with wax remover after washing. This will protect the mat and keep it sparkling clean.
Finally, your Weathertech Floor mats are ready to be used again in your car.
